Compression classes

Indications
Class 1 (18-21 mmHg): prophylaxis of venous diseases in at-risk patients, functional disorders such as heaviness and a sense of fatigue in the legs, early varicose veins in pregnancy, prophylaxis of thrombosis and embolisms.
Class 2 (23-32 mmHg): mild chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), thrombophlebitis (superficial thrombosis) with and without oedema, to ensure the success of treatment (after sclerotherapy, after selective outpatient varicose-vein surgery, after stripping), more pronounced varicose veins during pregnancy, prophylaxis of thrombosis and embolisms.
Contraindications
Absolute contraindications: infectious dermatitis, dermo-hypodermitis in the acute phase, dermatoses with active ulcers or sores. Arterial disease with a pressure index (ABI or IW) ≤ 0.55 (unless otherwise indicated by a doctor). Severe neuropathies. Extrinsic compression of the venous vessels (Baker’s cyst of the popliteal fossa, lymphadenopathies, etc.). Decompensated heart failure. Septic phlebitis. Ischaemic thrombosis (Phlegmasia coerulea dolens and Phlegmasia alba). Rheumatic fibromyalgia or, in general, any form of intolerance to prolonged pressure on the skin surface.
Relative contraindications: loss of limb sensitivity (unless otherwise indicated by a doctor), intolerance to graduated-compression stocking materials, advanced-stage peripheral neuropathy (e.g. diabetes mellitus), chronic primary polyarthritis.
Warnings
The stockings are intended for daytime use, unless prescribed by a doctor for night-time use. There is no need to remove the stocking for a short daytime rest.
Tips
When putting on the stockings, pay attention to rings and to sharp or damaged nails that could damage them. The use of rubber gloves is therefore recommended. Do not cut any protruding threads on the inside of the stockings.
Washing instructions
Wash the stockings in warm water at max 40° with mild detergents. Dry away from heat sources, without wringing the stocking, but placing it between two dry cloths. Do not bleach, do not use solvents or petrol. Avoid the use of softeners. Do not iron. Do not dry-clean. Do not use chemical substances. Do not tumble-dry.
